At Lilliput Infant School, we believe that all children are entitled to an education which allows every child to achieve their potential regardless of their starting point in life or personal circumstances. The government believes that the additional funding provided for Pupil Premium children is the best way to tackle those inequalities to enable children to have the best outcomes.

Which pupils are entitled to Pupil Premium?

Pupil Premium Grant (PPG) is provided to all schools to support pupils within the following categories:

• Pupils who are currently registered for Free School Meals.
• Pupils who have been registered for Free School Meals at any point during the last six years;
• Pupils in the care of a Local Authority;
• Pupils who have been adopted but have been looked after for one day or more, or were adopted from care on or after 30th December 2005 and left care under:
• A Special Guardianship Order on or after 30th December 2005
• A Residence Order on or after 14th October 1991
• Pupils whose parents are serving with the UK Armed Forces

What is Pupil Premium spent on?

The decision about how individual schools use their Pupil Premium is left to each school with the expectation that they will close the gap in attainment and progress between those eligible and other children nationally. “It is for schools to decide how the Pupil Premium is spent since they are best placed to assess what additional provision should be made for the individual pupils within their responsibility.” (DfE). Therefore, schools are free to spend the PPG as they see fit. However, they will be held accountable for how they have used the additional funding to support these pupils.

In September 2023,  EEF Guide to the Pupil Premium was updated and published by the Education Endowment Foundation.  This supports schools in spending their Pupil Premium to maximise the benefit for their students. The report recommends schools take a tiered approach to Pupil Premium spending. Teaching should be the top priority, including professional development, training and support for early career teachers and recruitment and retention. Targeted support for struggling pupils should also be a key component of an effective Pupil Premium strategy; as well as strategies that relate to non-academic factors, including improving attendance, behaviour and social and emotional support.  As a school we have used the information and research within this report to guide our spending of Pupil Premium money.

How is funding used at Lilliput Infant School?

At Lilliput, we use funding in a range of ways to support all pupils including those who qualify for Pupil Premium. In December 2024 we published our new three year plan which is a comprehensive strategy as to how we will support our pupils to meet their full potential. Class teachers and teaching assistants know which children are identified as pupil premium and, in termly pupil progress reviews, these children are a specific focus group.  Throughout the academic year, we analyse the impact of any additional support, interventions and strategies used to ensure they provide best value and that progress is being made by these pupils. 

PE and Sport Funding

Physical Education (PE) Curriculum

PE and sport are valued highly and play a very important part in the life of Lilliput C.E. Infant School. Therefore, as a staff team, we have carefully considered the units and skills we will teach based on our knowledge of how the children learn and what we believe will support the children at Lilliput most, in line with the EYFS framework and the National Curriculum. This is reassessed each year and is continually discussed throughout the year to allow children to receive a positive and strong experience of sport throughout their time at Lilliput. 

Our teaching of each unit will be delivered incorporating our Christian Vision and Values. Equally, we will make our school's Key Skills for Life explicit to the children through our teaching and their learning.  

Sports Role Models

Our Sports Role Model(s) of the half term is an exciting initiative that we champion at Lilliput. Each carefully selected role model relates to our half termly sports unit. They are introduced to the children during worship. The children have the opportunity to learn about each sports role model to appreciate their hard work, develop a deeper understanding towards each sports person and their sport. We hope to motivate, inspire and enhance the children's cultural capital through this endeavour.

Celebratory Sports Week

At the end of each unit, children at Lilliput experience a 'Celebratory Sports Week' where the children get the opportunity to apply the skills learnt during that unit of work to a team game, performance or tournament. During 'Celebratory Sports Week', a child from each class will also be awarded the 'Sports Person of the Half Term' in worship. 'Sports Person of the Half Term' will be awarded to children who have developed their skills and shown our school values in their PE lessons. These children are announced in our celebration worship and receive a special mention in our sports newsletter. 

We encourage parents/ carers to share their child's sporting achievements outside of school with the PE Lead and class teacher. You can do this by emailing the school office. We will then share these achievements during 'Celebratory Sports Week' and, with your permission, in the sports newsletter.

PE sports funding

At Lilliput C.E. Infant School, we are committed to the ongoing and sustained improvement of PE and sport. Our overall aim is to raise standards in PE and sport, increasing the participation and opportunities offered to our children. We aim to provide higher quality lessons and improved learning for all.

Since 2013, the government have been providing approximately £150 million per year to improve provision of physical education (PE) and sport in schools. The money must be used to improve the provision of PE and school sport. Ofsted continue to monitor the impact of this funding and schools have to account for how they have spent their Sport Premium money. We are therefore delighted to be able to use the money received to date to support the development of PE and sport in the following ways (please see below for a detailed outline of how have spent/ intend to spend the sports premium money):
